Day 5: Sissu, Atal Tunnel, and Solang Valley/Manali, Rohtang Pass, Naggar Castle

Get ready for an exciting day because today, you’re headed to Sissu via the magical Atal tunnel, which happens to be a whopping 9 kilometres long! But first things first, make sure to fuel up with a delicious breakfast at your hotel or a cozy cafe, wherever you find it good. Trust us, an early start is the name of the game because you’ve got three fantastic destinations to cover, and you’ll want to do it at your own relaxed pace, not in a rush.

The first stop is the breathtaking Sissu Falls, also known as Khagling. It’s tucked away on the Manali-Leh highway, and it’s the perfect spot to unwind after a long ride. To soak in its enchanting beauty, you’ll have to take a little trek up a rocky path, about 15 to 20 minutes, leading right to the waterfall.

Next up, the Gyephang Temple – this one’s a big deal in Lahaul. The locals believe Gyephang or Raja Ghepan is their protector, and the stories say they even battled demons back in the day. After that, it’s time for some grub, and Sissu has got you covered with some awesome food trucks. Maggi, anyone?

Now, as you make your way back to Manali, don’t forget to stop at Solang Valley. If you’re up for some adventure, you’re in the right place. And yeah, it might get a bit dark by the time you roll back into Manali. You must be pretty tired, so kick back, have a hearty dinner, and trust us, you’re going to sleep like a log tonight. What a day!

Well, we’ve got two options for Day 5

Now that the Atal tunnel is there, lots of people usually skip the Rohtang Pass. But if you’re not in a rush to squeeze everything into one day, we’d highly recommend checking out the Rohtang Pass. It’s totally worth it! Once you get to the top, you’ll be treated to some seriously stunning scenery. And yes, the cold wind up there is bone-chilling but also super exciting.

Afterwards, you can swing by Mari for food and then make your way back to Manali. In the evening, you should consider a visit to Naggar Castle. Inside, there’s this charming little art gallery that showcases some amazing pieces by the Russian artist Nicholas Roerich. And guess what? The entry fee is just Rs. 20. So, it’s a great way to wrap up your day with some beautiful art and a taste of history!
