Sending a postcard to your loved ones will be your best chance to connect to the rest of the world as Hikkim village has no mobile or internet connectivity. After spending your time here head to Komic which is just 3 km away. It’s the highest village or motorable village in the world, but that’s still up for debate. Your next stop will be Langza. Langza is known for fossils of the Triassic-Jurassic period (200 million years old). Also, pay a visit to the 1000-year-old Lang temple. Day 7: Kaza to Chandratal
Wake up early, it’s time to say goodbye to Kaza. To reach Chandratal you’ll have to go via Losar. Losar is just like any other village in Spiti, a little bit greener than the rest since it is at a slightly lower altitude. And fortunately, there are a few dhabas here so you can feast on your breakfast. Your next destination is Kunzum Pass which is an uphill journey to the hill pass. It is a mandatory stop for all vehicles. No one proceeds without taking the blessings of the revered Knzum Mata. From Kunzum Pass to Chandratal there is a steep trek route which takes about 3 hours. If you are thinking that you have driven on the riskiest and toughest road wait until you start driving on this one. There is not much of a road here, there are just tyre tracks to follow.
After about 9 km you’ll reach the point where there is a turn to the right for Chandratal and the main highway leads towards Manali via Batal. After the turn, Chandratal is just 10 km. Amid different shades of brown the crescent-shaped Moon Lake or Chandratal Lake is a beautiful shade of blue. You’ll see flags fluttering in the air and the whistling wind whispering “Om Mane Padme Hum” in your ears. You can Camp at Chandratal or head to Batal, the nearest village to Chandratal. Crash at your homestay for an overnight stay.
Stay Recommendations: There is no cemented hotel or guest house here at Chandratal. It’s a very secluded area and the nearest town is Batal towards Manali. You can opt for Camping at Chandratal or Batal has a few more options where you may get a bed for the night for a few hundred Rupees. Batal is approximately 16 kilometres from Chandratal.
Where to Eat: There are a few Dhabas at Batal.

Day 8: Chandratal to Manali
After Batal, it is pretty much a straight drive until Gramphoo with a few breaks in between. This entire stretch of the road is extremely tough. From Gramphu you can take one of the two routes to Manali:
- Gramphu – Rohtang – Kothi – Palchan – Manali
- Gramhpu – Koksar – Chandra Bridge – Atal Tunnel – Solang Valley – Manali
Welcome to Manali! You’ll reach here by evening. Check in to your hotel, lay back and get some rest. For dinner, you can step out. Find any restaurant or cafe near the mall road, sit there and relax while you place your order. Time for some good conversations! You’ll have a bunch to talk about now. It’s your first trip together after all, especially if your marriage was arranged. The loved married ones might be used to it! Head back to the hotel and get some deep sleep.
Stay Recommendations: Hotel Mountain Face, Montana Blues Resort, Smuggler Mountain View, Royal View Cottage.
Where to Eat: Johnson’s Café, Café 1947, The Corner House, Drifter’s Café.
