Day 1
Dharamshala to Kareri Village and forest camp | Drive to Kareri Village, meet the trek team and begin a measured walk beside the Nyund stream to the planned overnight halt.
A Dhauladhar trek from Kareri Village along the Nyund stream to a clear high-altitude lake surrounded by forest, rock and seasonal snow.
Kareri Lake is a rewarding three-day trek for travellers who want a quieter Dhauladhar experience than Triund. The route begins at Kareri Village and follows the Nyund stream through forest and small seasonal halts before reaching the lake at about 2,934 metres. Although the altitude is moderate by Himalayan standards, the walking days include uneven stone, stream sections and a sustained climb. A locally confirmed route, early starts and a flexible weather plan make the journey safer and more enjoyable.
The practical route starts from Kareri Village and follows the Nyund stream through forest and small seasonal settlements before climbing to Kareri Lake. The village-to-lake distance is about 14 kilometres, but most guided plans divide the ascent with an overnight halt. Trail conditions around streams and the upper approach change with rain and snow.
April to June and September to November are normally the most comfortable periods. Early summer may retain snow near the lake, while heavy monsoon rain can swell streams and make stone sections slippery. Autumn often brings clear views and colder nights.

Trek to Kareri Lake | Climb through forest and rocky sections to the lake. Explore only as conditions allow and camp at the approved seasonal site.
Descend to Kareri Village | Start after breakfast, descend carefully and return to Dharamshala with buffer time for trail and road conditions.
Kareri Lake Trek uses the camps, village rooms or simple mountain accommodation appropriate to its 3 Days / 2 Nights route. The final plan must name each halt and meal arrangement because facilities can change by season.
The transfer plan for Kareri Lake Trek must state how the group reaches Kareri Village and where it finishes. Snow, road damage or local controls can move the practical pickup point.
It is moderate because of sustained walking, uneven terrain and basic camping, though it does not reach the altitude of the major Dhauladhar passes.
Government tourism sources place the lake at about 2,934 metres above sea level.
Most plans begin at Kareri Village, reached by road from the Dharamshala area.
Active beginners can consider it with preparation, suitable footwear and a locally confirmed itinerary.
Stream flow and slippery sections can make monsoon travel unsafe. Check current advice and postpone when conditions are poor.

A high-altitude traverse from Kunzum Pass towards the Moon Lake, trading the Batal road approach for a quieter walk across open Spiti terrain.

A short but steep high-altitude hike from historic Dhankar village to a quiet lake above the Spiti–Pin river confluence.

A very high non-technical trekking peak above Kibber, offering a vast Spiti panorama but demanding excellent acclimatisation, fitness and stable weather.
